Baseball Recap: New Bern Bears vs. D.H. Conley Vikings
New Bern extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 11-10 in the process. They came up short against the D.H. Conley Vikings, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 on April 2nd.
As for D.H. Conley, the victory was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.
For D.H. Conley's part, Tucker Anderson spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks. Anderson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Davis Bradley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Stewart, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Bern will square off against Jacksonville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for D.H. Conley, they will face off against Bear Grass Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 1.9, the Bears 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
