Basketball Recap: Makayla Bell and Paris Blackwood Secure Win for Wekiva

Wekiva posted their closest win since February 7, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged the Bishop Moore Hornets out 52-50. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Hornets back in December of 2024, they had to take a 57-40 loss.

Leading Wekiva to victory were Paris Blackwood and Makayla Bell. Blackwood posted nine points and three steals, while Bell earned 12 points. Those nine points gave Blackwood a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tiana Washington, who scored four points and ten boards.

Despite the defeat, Bishop Moore saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jaiden Peterson had 17 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayonna Lewis, who put up eight points and three steals.

Wekiva's record now sits at 7-15. As for Bishop Moore, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.

Wekiva wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-17 victory against Evans on the 4th. As for Bishop Moore, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 15-0 win against Edgewood on the 31st.
