Baseball Recap: Reavis Rams vs. Richards Bulldogs
Reavis fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Richards on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 on Monday.
Juan Avila was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Parker Zasada was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
This is the second loss in a row for Reavis and nudges their season record down to 12-7. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Richards, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Reavis and Richards should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Rams will take on Bremen at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (69 vs. 346). Meanwhile, Richards (ranked 148th) will meet Thornton Fractional North (ranked 578th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
