Football Recap: Franklin's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Franklin dropped down to 5-2 on Friday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Eastwood Troopers, falling 49-26. The contest marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Franklin still got an impressive performance from Ernie Powers, who rushed for 397 yards and four scores while picking up 13.7 yards per carry. Powers really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run.

As for Eastwood, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.2 points over those games.

Eastwood was led to victory by Kingston Jeffries and Matthew Ramirez. Jeffries threw for 338 yards and five TDs while completing 78.3% of his passes, while Ramirez gained 261 total yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Jeffries a new career-high in passer rating (159). Jordan Nava did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 32 receiving yards.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Franklin will square off against rival Socorro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Powers and Adrian Hunt. Meanwhile, Eastwood is set to take on their familiar foe Pebble Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,290 yards in their previous games.
