Basketball Game Preview: Amite County Trojans vs. Columbia Wildcats

The Amite County Trojans and the Columbia Wildcats will round out the year against one another at at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Last Thursday, Amite County lost to Wesson on the road by a 60-46 margin.

Meanwhile, Columbia had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Trojans, sneaking past 60-58. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since November 19th.

Columbia's win came from a few key players Amite County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tra Lewis, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games he's played. Avyon Lewis was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds.

Columbia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Amite County has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Columbia, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.

Amite County didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Columbia in their previous matchup back in December of 2019, but they still walked away with a 65-60 victory.
