Basketball Game Preview: Wekiva Mustangs vs. West Orange Warriors

The Wekiva Mustangs will head out to square off against the West Orange Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Friday, Wekiva came up short against Horizon and fell 51-44. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jakayla Johnson, who posted nine points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiana Washington, who scored eight points and eight boards.

Meanwhile, West Orange was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 43-39 heartbreaker at the hands of Apopka.

Like Wekiva, West Orange lost despite seeing results from several players. Chakayla Scott led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 23 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Scott a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Jadid Polanco, who put up 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

West Orange's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Wekiva, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.

Wekiva beat West Orange 55-47 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wekiva since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
