The Seeger Patriots are taking a road trip to square off against the Rossville Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Rossville will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Seeger extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Patriots blew past North Vermillion 17-4. Considering the Patriots have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Peyton Grimmett made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Xavier Lang was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Seeger's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Drew Pruitt also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Seeger always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .513 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Rossville got the win against Peru on Saturday by a conclusive 9-2. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Rossville also got a great performance from AJ Kelley as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on RJ Vantuinen, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Evan Mcdonald was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
The victory got Seeger back to even at 3-3. As for Rossville, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Rossville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Seeger has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. It's a different story for Rossville, though, as they've only averaged .342. Will they be able to contain Seeger's hitters?
Seeger was able to grind out a solid win over Rossville in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, winning 5-1. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
