Softball Recap: Gloversville Huskies/Dragons vs. Hudson Falls Tigers
Gloversville extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-10 in the process. They lost 21-0 to the Hudson Falls Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-1 on April 9th.
As for Hudson Falls, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.
For Hudson Falls' part, Lainey Dunbar made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Dunbar was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lily Bump and Madison Sawyer did most of the damage at the plate: Bump went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles, while Sawyer got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Sawyer has posted since April 2nd. Caliegh Zahaba was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Gloversville and Hudson Falls could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Huskies/Dragons will face off against Scotia-Glenville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (424 vs. 80). Meanwhile, Hudson Falls (ranked 85th) will meet Ballston Spa (ranked 19th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
