Football Game Preview: Dalhart Wolves vs. Shallowater Mustangs + How To Watch

Two dominant signal callers in Hunter Trusler and Cooper Martin are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Dalhart Wolves will welcome the Shallowater Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Dalhart will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Bushland, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wolves put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 31-7 win on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Wolves, who have now won seven games in a row.

Dalhart didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off six passes before the game was over. Trusler led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Kade Speer was another major factor on D, making 15 total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Shallowater got themselves on the board against River Road on Friday, but River Road never followed suit. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 56-0 win over the Wildcats. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Shallowater found their leader in sophomore Martin, who threw for 187 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Easton Foster showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 65 yards.

Dalhart's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Shallowater, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Dalhart has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 256.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Shallowater struggles in that department as they've been averaging 157.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Dalhart was dealt a bruising 49-20 loss at the hands of Shallowater in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Martin, who threw for 250 yards and three TDs while completing 75% of his passes. Now that the Wolves know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
