Basketball Recap: Tylaiah Wily and Aspen Mcclees Secure Win for Gilbert

The third road contest was the charm for Gilbert, as they earned their first road win of the season. They managed a 56-52 victory over the Cesar Chavez Champions on Monday. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Champions, too.

Leading Gilbert to victory were Aspen McClees and Tylaiah Wily. McClees almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards, while Wily went 7 of 12 on her way to 21 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Leila Josey, who posted five points.

Gilbert was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cesar Chavez only racked up eight assists.

Despite the defeat, Cesar Chavez had strong showings from Lakeisha Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards, and Alex Ballard, who had 17 points. Cesar Chavez is undefeated when Robinson posts ten or more boards, but 1-2 otherwise.

Gilbert picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 6-3. As for Cesar Chavez, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-2.

Gilbert didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-53 defeat against St. Mary's on the 18th. As for Cesar Chavez, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-47 victory against Inderkum on the 18th.
