Soccer Game Preview: Genoa-Kingston vs. North Boone

The Genoa-Kingston Cogs will venture away from home to square off against the North Boone Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Genoa-Kingston has nine straight victories, North Boone has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Genoa-Kingston barely beat Rockford Christian the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cogs' defense stepped up to hand the Royal Lions a 3-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering Genoa-Kingston have won six matchups by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

They hit Rockford Christian with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Samantha Wendt, Jaida Modesto, and Jaquey Flores.

Meanwhile, North Boone fell victim to Dixon and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They lost 9-0 to the Dukes & Duchesses. While losing is never fun, North Boone can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 367th, while Dixon are ranked 167th).

Genoa-Kingston's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 24 goals over those five contests. As for North Boone, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Genoa-Kingston skirted past North Boone 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cogs since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
