Football Recap: Normal University Pioneers vs. Mt. Zion Braves

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Normal University can now relate to. They fell 21-14 to the Mt. Zion Braves on Saturday. The contest marked the Pioneers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Normal University lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cade Cunningham, who picked up 92 receiving yards and a touchdown. Normal University also got a significant boost from Alek Weiland, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 83 yards.

Brayden Trimble continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mt. Zion, rushing for 86 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, while also catching a touchdown. That's the most rushing yards Trimble has posted since back in October of 2023.

Normal University's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-3. As for Mt. Zion, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.

Normal University does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mt. Zion, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 40-6 loss against DePaul College Prep on the 29th.
