Softball Recap: Redwood's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Redwood dropped their record down to 15-9 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the American Canyon Wolves by a score of 5-4. The Giants were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wolves from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Stella Belluomini spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hailey Carlton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs. Another player making a difference was Ava Brown, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run.

As for American Canyon, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 5th.

On American Canyon's side, Ianna Labao made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Labao was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Labao wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aalayah Ramos, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Deja Montgomery was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

Redwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for American Canyon, they will be taking part in a tournament against Casa Grande at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
