Recap: Saguaro Sabercats vs. St. Mary's Knights
The Saguaro Sabercats suffered their biggest defeat since December 16, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by St. Mary on the road and fell 75-46. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Saguaro in their matchups with St. Mary's: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the defeat, Saguaro saw an underclassman step up: Mikey Shepston scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shepston has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Quynnton Weatherspoon, who scored four points.
Saguaro has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for St. Mary's, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-6.
Saguaro will be playing at home against Seton Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Seton Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Friday. As for St. Mary's, St. Mary's and Mesquite will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Mesquite's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 15 matchups.
