Soccer Game Preview: Alleghany vs. Nelson County

The Alleghany Cougars will head out to square off against the Nelson County Governors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Alleghany's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Alleghany's offense. They came up short against Staunton on Thursday, falling 8-0.

Meanwhile, after soaring to four goals the game before, Nelson County was a bit more limited in their match on Monday. They fell just short of Amherst County by a score of 1-0. The defeat continues a trend for Nelson County in their meetings with Amherst County: they've now lost six in a row.

Alleghany's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Nelson County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Alleghany suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Nelson County when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Alleghany avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
