Basketball Game Preview: Rio Grande Ravens vs. West Mesa Mustangs

Rio Grande is 0-10 against West Mesa since February of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Rio Grande Ravens will head out to challenge the West Mesa Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Rio Grande is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 15th straight game on Saturday. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-46 heartbreaker at the hands of Melrose.

Rio Grande might have lost, but man, Sophia L?pez was a machine: she posted 19 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 41.3% of Rio Grande's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Jaeda Chavez was another key player, putting up ten points.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, West Mesa's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 44-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Los Lunas.

West Mesa's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-8. As for Rio Grande, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-15.

Rio Grande took a serious blow against West Mesa in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, falling 65-8. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Rio Grande was down 42-6.
