Basketball Recap: Wood River Eagles vs. Minden Whippets
Wood River played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Minden Whippets, falling 70-26. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Whippets recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Wood River saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lainey Paulk posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Courtney Dimmitt, who earned four points and eight boards.
Mattie Kamery was her usual excellent self, going 8-for-15 on her way to 23 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals for Minden. Kamery is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 46% in the last 14 games she's played. Myla Emery was another key player, putting up seven points along with seven steals and six assists.
Wood River's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Minden, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season.
Wood River wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-46 defeat against Doniphan-Trumbull on the 14th. As for Minden, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-33 victory against Fairbury on the 19th.
