Baseball Game Preview: Moapa Valley Pirates vs. Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights

The Moapa Valley Pirates are taking a road trip to face off against the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Moapa Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Tyson Pettingill put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Moapa Valley: the team is 6-3 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

Pettingill wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Logan Schouten, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Lincoln Stankosky also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Moapa Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.

Both Moapa Valley and Mater Academy East Las Vegas just can't seem to miss. The Pirates have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Mater Academy East Las Vegas struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
