Basketball Recap: Tolleson Takes a Loss

Tolleson lost against West Point two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Tolleson Wolverines took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Point Dragons. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Dragons are ranked 35th).

When it comes to explaining why Tolleson lost, don't look at Rico Blassingame. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Blassingame a new career-high in boards.

West Point's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mijahi Baldwin, who posted nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Samuel Kalikilwa, who put up eight points and 11 boards.

Tolleson has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season. The win (which was West Point's 19th in a row) raised their record to 20-3.

Tolleson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-38 defeat against Mesa on the 21st. As for West Point, they have also already played their next contest, a 56-50 loss against St. Mary's on the 19th.
