Basketball Recap: Leesville's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

After flying high against Pitkin on Friday, Leesville came back down to earth. The Leesville Wampus Cats took a 55-41 bruising from the Simpson Broncos on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Wampus Cats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Broncos are ranked 21st).

Despite the loss, Leesville still got an impressive performance from Shyann McCummings, who posted 18 points. McCummings' afternoon made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Piper Fowler was another key player, putting up ten points.

Leesville moved to 6-6 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Simpson, they pushed their record up to 22-1 with the win, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leesville will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Anacoco at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. After both having extra time off, Simpson and Negreet will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
