Softball Recap: Effingham Sets Scoring Season-High Against Taylorville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Effingham). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Taylorville Tornadoes a 20-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Hearts in their matchups with the Tornadoes: they've now won nine in a row.

Sidney Donaldson was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Jerzi Bierman was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Effingham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Effingham's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Taylorville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Effingham beat Taylorville by a score of 20-0 later that day.
