Softball Recap: Cerro Gordo/Bement Comes Up Short

Cerro Gordo/Bement extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-11 in the process. They lost 12-1 to the Argenta-Oreana Bombers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Broncos of the 14-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Cerro Gordo/Bement saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sierra Personette, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Argenta-Oreana, their victory bumped their record up to 7-10. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the game before.

On Argenta-Oreana's side, Elyssa Armstrong made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Armstrong has posted over her last 11 matches. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Pyper Jones was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last ten contests. Gracie Manning was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cerro Gordo/Bement will take on Arcola at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Argenta-Oreana, they will challenge St. Thomas More at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bombers are facing the Sabers at the right time seeing as the Sabers are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
