Basketball Recap: Hawthorne Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Hawthorne entered their tilt with Bell Creek Academy on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They snuck past the Bell Creek Academy Panthers with a 66-60 win.

Hawthorne got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dacarion Debose out in front who posted 14 points and three steals. Debose has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kelvin Baker, who went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points.

Hawthorne was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lyrique Sartin, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 21 points along with seven assists and three steals. That was a full 35% of Bell Creek Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Armani Morris was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Hawthorne's record now sits at 11-2. As for Bell Creek Academy, they moved to 13-8 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Hawthorne has already played their next matchup, a 75-60 win against Pine Ridge on the 25th. As for Bell Creek Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Patel at 7:00 p.m. Bell Creek Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Patel likes a good challenge.
