Softball Recap: Berks Catholic Comes Up Short

Berks Catholic suffered their closest loss since April 8, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of the Twin Valley Raiders by a score of 2-0. The shutout was out of character for the Saints seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in April.

Giana Mirenda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Berks Catholic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabelle Gasperack, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.

This is the second loss in a row for Berks Catholic and nudges their season record down to 5-10. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Twin Valley, the win (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 18-2.

Looking ahead, Berks Catholic will head out on the road to face off against Eastern York at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Twin Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
