Softball Recap: Albany Finds Playoff Glory Versus St. Patrick-St. Vincent

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Albany walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins on Friday. Considering the Cougars have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Caroline Snyder made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lauren Jones was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Albany always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Albany is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for St. Patrick-St. Vincent, they dropped their record down to 1-18 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Albany will take on Salesian College Preparatory at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pride will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. St. Patrick-St. Vincent does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
