Softball Game Preview: Garland Owls vs. Wylie Pirates

Garland is 0-9 against Wylie since March of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Garland Owls will welcome the Wylie Pirates at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Garland comes in on three and Wylie on five.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Garland faced off against Rowlett on Friday. Garland came out on top against Rowlett by a score of 5-1.

Natalie Arent spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sinijay Maxey, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Melody Alarcon also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Wylie posted their closest win since February 22nd on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Rowlett 15-13.

Wylie pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.7 runs over those games. As for Garland, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2-1.

Garland suffered a grim 23-0 defeat to Wylie in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Garland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
