Basketball Recap: Tok Comes Up Short

If Tok was feeling good fresh off their 72-26 takedown of Andrew K. Demoski on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tok Wolverines lost 72-50 to the Effie Kokrine Charter Warriors on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while the Warriors are ranked eighth).

When it comes to explaining why Tok lost, don't look at Chairo Espinosa. Despite the final result, he posted 19 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Espinosa is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Lucas Hipp was another key player, putting up six points and 19 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Tok smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Jonas Carroll continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Effie Kokrine Charter, earning 30 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeffery Frank, who had 15 points.

Tok's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Effie Kokrine Charter, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

While Tok had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Friday.
