Harvest Prep snaps eight-game streak of wins at home

Recap: Harvest Prep Warriors vs. Fisher Catholic Irish

After a string of four wins, the Harvest Prep Warriors's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 49-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fisher Catholic. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Harvest Prep of the 56-45 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.

Despite the loss, Harvest Prep saw an underclassman step up: Israelle Smith scored 17 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Johnson, who scored nine points.

Even though they lost, Harvest Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fisher Catholic only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

Fisher Catholic had a senior duo take command as Voni Bethel scored 23 points and Ellie Bruce scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Bruce has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Sydney Ellis was another key contributor, scoring four points along with four steals.

Harvest Prep's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-8. As for Fisher Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Harvest Prep will look to defend their home court on Saturday against St. Francis DeSales at 6:30 p.m. St. Francis DeSales is coming into the match with four straight losses on the road, meaning Harvest Prep will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Fisher Catholic, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Grove City Christian at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th. Fisher Catholic's defense has only allowed 24.8 points per game this season, so Grove City Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them.
