Basketball Game Preview: Boyd County Spartans vs. North Central Knights

Boyd County and North Central are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2018, but not for long. The Boyd County Spartans will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the North Central Knights at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

North Central will be up against a hot Boyd County team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Boyd County breezed past Niobrara/Verdigre to the tune of 63-22 on Tuesday. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-9.

Hudson Hoffman was a one-man wrecking crew for Boyd County as he went 10-for-17 en route to 31 points and five steals. Boyd County is 8-2 when Hoffman posts three or more steals, but 5-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Cash Sinclair, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 13 points.

Boyd County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, North Central hadn't done well against Ainsworth recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. North Central snuck past Ainsworth with a 63-59 win.

Boyd County's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-9. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.3 points over those games. As for North Central, their win bumped their record up to 9-14.

Boyd County strolled past North Central in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 64-46. Will Boyd County repeat their success, or does North Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
