Basketball Recap: Staunton River Takes a Loss

Staunton River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Fleming Colonels 64-33. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Colonels are ranked 93rd).

Staunton River's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Fleming, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Staunton River won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Liberty has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 178 points over their last three matches. As for Fleming, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Patrick Henry at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Fleming has won five straight at home, while Patrick Henry won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
