Basketball Recap: Earlville Takes a Loss

If Earlville was riding high fresh off their 43-22 takedown of Illinois Math & Science Academy last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Earlville Red Raiders were outmatched by the Indian Creek Timberwolves and fell 56-29. The Red Raiders' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Earlville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Addie Scherer posted eight points and ten boards. Scherer continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Miller, who had four points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Earlville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 16 consecutive contests.

Leading Indian Creek to victory were Isabella Turner and Bethany Odle. Turner dropped a double-double on 24 points and 17 boards, while Odle went 8 for 16 on her way to 16 points and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Turner has scored at least a third of Indian Creek's points. Another player making a difference was Ally Keilman, who scored six points.

Earlville's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-17. As for Indian Creek, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.

Earlville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 61-31 victory against Hiawatha on the 23rd. Indian Creek has also already played their next game, a 64-38 loss against Serena on the 23rd.
