Softball Game Preview: Cascade Cougars vs. Newport Cubs

Cascade is 8-2 against Newport since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Cougars will look to defend their home field against the Cubs at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Cascade's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home while Newport has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Cascade's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Thursday's struggle, when Stayton hitters got past them. The Cougars lost 14-4 to the Eagles on Thursday. The loss was the Cougars' first of the season.

Malia Scanlan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Amyah Miranda, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Newport couldn't beat Philomath on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the sixth inning. The Cubs fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 9-8.

Emry Belloni was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Another player making a difference was Ivy Ruddiman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Cascade, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 18-1.

Newport's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cascade has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Newport, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Cascade's sizable advantage in that area, the Cubs will need to find a way to close that gap.

Cascade took their victory against Newport in their previous meeting last Wednesday by a conclusive 14-3 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cubs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
