Preview: Jesuit Tigers vs. Pinellas Park Patriots
The Jesuit Tigers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Pinellas Park Patriots at 7:30 p.m. Jesuit is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
Jesuit put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 66-35 victory over Tampa Catholic. With Jesuit ahead 38-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Jesuit got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Will Griffin out in front who threw for 401 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 82.8% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Thurman, who gained 215 total yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Pinellas Park had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 49-34 victory over Seminole on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Emarian Triplett continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 156 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Triplett is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Keyshaun Birks also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Pinellas Park's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Javon Williams was especially locked on to Seminole's QB and sacked him twice.
Jesuit has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 8-2 record. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 9-1 Bishop Verot and 9-1 Armwood (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.9% over those games). As for Pinellas Park, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Jesuit has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 367.2 total yards per game. However, it's not like Pinellas Park struggles in that department as they've been even better at 370.7 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
