Baseball Recap: Central Comes Up Short

If Central was riding high fresh off their 8-1 takedown of Bellevue East on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Indians fell just short of the Park Hill Trojans by a score of 4-3 on Monday. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Kanon Wetlaufer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits.

At the plate, Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grant Hughes, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Central has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Park Hill, they pushed their record up to 10-11 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Central will challenge Park Hill South at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Park Hill has already played their next contest (against North Kansas City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
