Basketball Preview: Mays Raiders vs. Lithia Springs Lions
Mays has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They and the Lithia Springs Lions will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Mays' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 contests.
Mays pushed their score all the way to 61 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 69-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Midtown. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mays came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Knights are ranked 286th).
Despite the defeat, Mays got a solid performance out of Derron Lindsey ii, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Lindsey ii pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Germani Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lithia Springs was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 53-48 to the Panthers.
Mays' loss dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Lithia Springs, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-11.
Mays came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lions when the teams last played last Saturday, sneaking past 59-56. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mays since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
