Softball Game Preview: Bremen Lions vs. Rochester Zebras

The Bremen Lions will venture away from home to take on the Rochester Zebras at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Bremen turned things around against LaVille on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Lancers. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.

Delainey Neher was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Emma Flora, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Bremen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Rochester had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They skirted past the Indians 7-5.

Bria Rensberger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Gabby Medina also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Bremen's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-9. As for Rochester, their record now sits at 8-3.

Everything went Bremen's way against Rochester in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, as Bremen made off with a 13-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
