Baseball Game Preview: Winter Springs Bears vs. Deltona Wolves

Winter Springs has gone a perfect 3-0 against Deltona recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bears will square off against the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Winter Springs is coming into the match hot, having won their last ten games.

Winter Springs is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Edgewater 10-1. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.

Winter Springs got a great performance from Aiden Smarrito as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Smarrito has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Alex Dameron and Owen Swanson did most of the damage at the plate: Dameron went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Swanson scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Swanson a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Xavier Rodriguez, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Deltona beat New Smyrna Beach 5-1 on Tuesday.

Mason Draper tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Deltona is 6-3 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Jay Albizu was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Winter Springs' victory bumped their record up to 22-4. As for Deltona, their win bumped their record up to 10-14.

Everything went Winter Springs' way against Deltona when the teams last played back in February, as Winter Springs made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
