Basketball Recap: Escondido Has No Trouble Against Chula Vista

Escondido won the last time they faced Chula Vista and things went their way on Friday too. The Escondido Cougars put the hurt on the Chula Vista Spartans with a sharp 66-44 win. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 21 points or more this season.

Escondido found their leader in sophomore Maddox Mendoza, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 boards. Danny Valadez was another key player, going 7 of 14 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.

Escondido smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Escondido is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Chula Vista, they moved to 12-5 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Escondido will head out to take on Calvin Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
