Basketball Recap: Whiteland Comes Up Short

Whiteland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 66-57 to the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), the Warriors still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Whiteland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Joban Kalkat went 7 for 12 en route to 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kalkat has scored all season. Tyler Angerer was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Franklin Community to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tony Barnes, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Omari Thomas, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Whiteland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Franklin Community, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-8 record.

Whiteland will face off against Mooresville at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Whiteland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. Franklin Community has already played their next matchup, a 66-64 loss against New Palestine on the 25th.
