Basketball Recap: Qwes Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead East Coweta over Westlake

East Coweta suffered their biggest defeat since December 14, 2024 on Saturday. They came up short against the Westlake Lions, falling 82-62. The loss continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost four in a row.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Qwes Williams, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 14 points and eight boards. Marcus Towns was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, East Coweta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Leading Westlake to victory were Charles Matthews and Amare Jackson. Matthews went 8 of 18 en route to 23 points and three steals, while Jackson went 6 for 8 on his way to 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Jackson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Amir Eichelberger, who posted 12 points and seven boards.

East Coweta's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-7. As for Westlake, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

East Coweta and Westlake should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. East Coweta will face off against Douglas County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 210 places (87 vs. 297). East Coweta is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Similarly, Westlake (ranked 29th) will meet Carrollton (ranked 341st) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. East Coweta is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.1 points per game this season.
