Basketball Recap: Nine Straight Home Victories for Denver East

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Denver East walked away with it. They walked away with a 55-46 victory over the Arvada West Wildcats on Wednesday. The Angels have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Denver East got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Grace Hall out in front who shot 50% from the field on her way to 20 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Hall is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last 17 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mairead Hearty, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Denver East smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in 13 consecutive matchups.

Defeat or not, Arvada West got some senior leadership from Saylor Swanson and Avery Harrison. Swanson posted 17 points, while Harrison went 6-for-14 to rack up 12 points and six boards.

Denver East's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-8. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33 points. As for Arvada West, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 21-4.

Denver East didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-34 defeat against Grandview on the 8th. Arvada West does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
