Baseball Recap: Frontier Triumphs

Frontier proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 22) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Belpre Golden Eagles 6-5. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 6-5 loss the last time these two teams met.

Zerik Rinard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brayden Powers, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Frontier's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Ethan Rinard was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Frontier has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Belpre, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-12.

Coming up, Frontier is taking a road trip to take on Beallsville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars are facing the Blue Devils at the right time seeing as the Blue Devils are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Belpre, they will be taking part in a tournament against Adena at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
