Softball Game Preview: Berkeley Prep Buccaneers vs. River Ridge Royal Knights

The Berkeley Prep Buccaneers will challenge the River Ridge Royal Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Berkeley Prep 3.1, River Ridge 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Berkeley Prep's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Wellington by a score of 4-0. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Buccaneers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Avery Powers made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Paige Quinn and Olivia Malin did most of the damage at the plate: Quinn scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Malin went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Malin a new career-high.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, River Ridge was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They fell just short of Wesley Chapel by a score of 3-2. The Royal Knights' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

River Ridge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paityn Vanfossen, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

River Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Berkeley Prep, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
