Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Valencia

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Valencia ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past the Golden Valley Grizzlies 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since February 17th.

Caleb Crawford looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

At the plate, Kyle Josing was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Jack Yamamura was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Valencia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.2.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Valencia, bringing their record up to 9-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Golden Valley, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-15.

Coming up, Valencia will head out to challenge Camarillo at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Scorpions will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight. As for Golden Valley, they will welcome West Ranch at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
