Basketball Recap: Cooper Helvey Key Part of a Team Effort in Green Waves Win

Narrows won the last time they faced Galax and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Narrows Green Waves were the clear victor by a 71-50 margin over the Galax Maroon Tide. The Green Waves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Narrows' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cooper Helvey led the charge by going 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Helvey has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Owens, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Narrows was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Narrows and bumps their season record up to 3-2. As for Galax, they dropped their record down to 0-3 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Narrows will be taking part in a tournament against Fort Chiswell on December 27th. As for Galax, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Giles at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
