Recap: East Burke Cavaliers vs. West Lincoln Rebels
The East Burke Cavaliers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 26-0 defeat at the hands of West Lincoln. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for East Burke in their matchups with West Lincoln: they've now lost five in a row.
Calvin Vue threw for 42 yards on four of 12 attempts. On the ground, Zayne Newman rushed for 93 yards.
Jaylin Winnex was his usual excellent self, rushing for 95 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding East Burke to a paltry 189 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to West Lincoln's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Bryce Beddingfield and his two sacks.
East Burke's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.3 points per game. As for West Lincoln, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
East Burke will head out on the road to face off against West Caldwell at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. West Caldwell comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for West Lincoln, they will look to defend their home field on October 27th against Lincolnton at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Lincolnton's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three matches.
