Washburn is a perfect 6-0 against St. Paul Central since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Millers will venture away from home to take on the Minutemen at 4:00 p.m. Washburn's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so St. Paul Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Monday, Washburn beat Minneapolis South 9-5. The Millers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Wyatt Shelton was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Jackson Karn also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Paul Central). Everything went their way against Harding on Monday as they made off with a 19-2 victory. The Minutemen not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 23, 2024 (when they won 25-6).
Cooper Entenman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Entenman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ademola Adedigba, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. St. Paul Central is 2-1 when Adedigba posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-7 otherwise. Cal Holsenback was another, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
St. Paul Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Washburn's record now sits at 4-2. As for St. Paul Central, their record is now 3-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Washburn has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Paul Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Washburn took their win against St. Paul Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Millers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
