Preview: East Lee County Jaguars vs. North Fort Myers Red Knights
East Lee County and North Fort Myers are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2016, but not for long. The East Lee County Jaguars will be playing at home against the North Fort Myers Red Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
East Lee County scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They walked away with a 65-58 victory over South Fort Myers. The win was just what East Lee County needed coming off of a 46-7 defeat in their prior match.
Even though North Fort Myers has not done well against Island Coast recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. North Fort Myers strolled past Island Coast with points to spare, taking the game 48-29. The win was just what North Fort Myers needed coming off of a 64-27 defeat in their prior game.
North Fort Myers' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Faith MacKay led the charge by scoring 18 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points MacKay has scored all season. Bianca Iten was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
East Lee County's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8. As for North Fort Myers, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season.
East Lee County might still be hurting after the 56-30 defeat they got from North Fort Myers in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Iten, who scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Now that East Lee County knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
