Baseball Recap: Albemarle Takes a Loss

Albemarle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Union Academy Cardinals, falling 23-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 24-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Albemarle saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendon Phillips, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Ben Smith also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Albemarle's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Union Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-7.

Coming up, Union Academy will host Pro Stock Royals Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Royals' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Cardinals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Albemarle will be paying especially close attention to Union Academy's match: after Union Academy faces off against Pro Stock Royals Academy, they'll take on Albemarle again at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
