Preview: North Buncombe Black Hawks vs. Erwin Warriors
North Buncombe is 8-2 against Erwin since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The North Buncombe Black Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Erwin Warriors at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully North Buncombe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact North Buncombe proved. They came out on top against Enka by a score of 59-47. Given North Buncombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Enka is ranked 395th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
North Buncombe can attribute much of their success to Aubrey Gilliland, who scored 11 points along with eight steals and five assists, and Gracie Edmonds, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lily Metcalf, who scored nine points.
Erwin suffered their biggest loss yet this season last Friday. They were dealt a 72-27 defeat at the hands of A.C. Reynolds. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Erwin in their matchups with A.C. Reynolds: they've now lost three in a row.
North Buncombe's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Erwin, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
North Buncombe came up short against Erwin in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 55-44. Can North Buncombe avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
